ACH Processing Times
This guide helps you understand how long different payment types take to process when using Paynote. Timelines below are based on Eastern Time (ET)
Understanding ACH and Real-Time Payment Timelines
- ACH transfers only move on business days (Mon–Fri), excluding U.S. bank holidays.
- Same Day ACH has three cutoff times within the business day.
- Real-Time Payments (RTP) are available 24/7/365, including weekends and holidays.
Standard ACH Transfers
Standard ACH Debit

Same Day ACH (Debit or Credit)
Same Day ACH allows you to move funds within the same business day—either by pulling from a customer’s account or pushing funds to a recipient—as long as you submit the transaction before cutoff.
Same Day ACH Debit
The key benefit is the ability to debit a customer’s account and funds are pulled the same day. This is ideal for new or less-trusted customers, time-sensitive payments, fraud checks, or faster order fulfillment.
With Same Day ACH Debits, the funds are paid into your receiving account (Paynote Balance) 2 business days after the transaction date.

Same Day ACH Credit
When pushing funds (like payouts or disbursements), the recipient can receive the money same-day. The credit is sent from the Paynote Balance. Since it’s a push, there’s no return risk.
For funds to be received same-day, submit the transaction before 4 PM ET on any business day:
Submitted (ET) | Exported By (ET) | Paid By |
---|---|---|
4 PM to 10 AM | 10 AM | 12:30 PM |
10 AM to 2 PM | 2 PM | 6 PM |
2 PM to 4 PM | 4 PM | 6 PM |
*transfer deadlines are approximate
📌 Examples:
- Debit: Charging a customer for a same-day service.
- Credit: Sending payroll or contractor payments with guaranteed same-day delivery.
Real-Time Payments (RTP)
- Processes instantly, at any time—day, night, weekend, or holiday.
- Push-only: you can send money, not pull it.
- Both sender and receiver must be part of the RTP network (bank-dependent).
📌 Example: Paying a freelancer or contractor immediately after work is done.
